The Role of Special Practical Training in the Professional Preparation of University Social Work Students: Required Practical Skills from the Professional Perspective

One of the priorities of university education within the EU is the preparation of experts for meeting the demands of practice. The level of the acquired knowledge and skills required by practice serves as the chief indicator in these demands. Looking at training of social workers at Czech universities, we perceive an effort to connect the so-called university education with the requirements of the Bologna Process, as well as the effort to meet the classification standards of the Czech Association of Educators in Social Work. The Association of Educators in Social Work aims for better interconnection of the aspects of university (academic) education, (i.e. the acquisition of university competencies such as creativity, flexibility, innovative spirit, teamwork, etc.) with the aspects of professional (specialized) education, (i.e. the acquisition of competencies needed for professional perspective in social work.) Therefore, it is only natural for the Czech university training of social workers to search for the optimal form of education. In 2012, a questionnaire survey was conducted in order to determine the content of professional competencies of social workers from the perspective of the actual social work practice. 1,350 respondents participated, all of whom were Czech social workers. The objective of this paper is to point out the possibilities to innovate the study program with the emphasis on the development of specific skills.

Dr. Zuzana Truhlářová

She is a doctor of pedagogy (Ph.D.). She works at the Institute of Social Work, University of Hradec Králové as a representative of director of the Institute of Social Work for learning. In the framework of her scientific research profiling she deals with issues of professional practice at universities in the context of anchoring of the practical skills among students of social work. She also deals with the issues of the social work with the elderly and with methods of social work with groups. Currently she is the leading manager of the scientific research project with international participation CZ.1.07/2.3.00/20.0209 Development and Support of Multidisciplinary Scientific Research Team for the Study of Contemporary Family at the UHK, where she holds a position of an excellent scientist.

Prof. Janka Levická

Lecturer and Guarantor of the Study of Social Work, Institute of Social Work, University of Hradec Králové, University of Trnava, Trnava, Slovakia

She works as a university professor at the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Health and Social Work, Trnava University in Trnava, where she focuses primarily on issues of theory and methods of social work, social and legal protection. Her research is focused on sphere of social work. Her research is focused on the sphere of social work with families and social services in the context of social work theories and methods. She also works at the Institute of Social Work, University of Hradec Králové, where she lectures ethics for social workers and leads psychological training.

Dr. Jana Marie Havigerová

Lecturer and Researcher in Psychology, Department of Primary and Preprimary Education, Institute of Social Work, University of Hradec Králové, Hradec Králové, Czech Republic

PhDr. Jana Marie Havigerová, Ph.D. - researcher in the field of educational psychology, mother of three children. Her theoretical background: cognitive, positive and folk psychology. Her research deals with the questions: how differently people perceive the implicit content of concepts of normality, talent, learning, family, etc. and how to encourage and develop the cognitive abilities in the school.

Dr. Karel Myska

Lecturer and Researcher, Institute of Social Work, University of Hradec Králové, Hradec Králové, Czech Republic

He works at the Institute of Social Work, University of Hradec Králové as an assistant professor and analyst of information and communication technologies. In the framework of his scientific research profiling he deals with utilization of information and communication technologies in teaching and public administration and preparation of management of scientific and development projects. He also works at the University of Hradec Králové as chairman of the Academic senate and member of web and information system committee.
