Preservice Teachers' Results on Grade 6 Provincial Math Achievement Test: Implications for Teacher Education and Teacher Professional Development
299 preservice teachers wrote the 2005 Alberta Grade 6 Mathematics Achievement Test. Only 10 students scored 100% on the test.
Implications and recommendations for Teacher Education programs will be discussed.

Nola Aitken is Associate Professor of Education at the University of Lethbridge, Alberta. Previously Nola was a Test Development Specialist for the Alberta Department of Education. Prior to that she was a classroom teacher for 23 years. Her academic interests are mathematics education, teacher education, and evaluation of student learning. Nola is co-author of two books, "Leading for Change: A renewed Focus on Teaching and Learning" (2003), and "Forever Better: Continuous Quality Improvement in Higher Education" (2000). Currently she is co-editing a new book, "Accountability in Schools: Trends for the 21st Century".
