Nowadays, inquiry-based learning approach has been frequently used in science and technology courses in primary schools. Inquiry-based learning is a student centered approach focused on questions, crital thinking and problem solving. Inquiry-based learning helps students develop some skills that they need to use in their lives. In this learning process, students use their problem solving skills, beside their critical thinking skills. Students are provided with some experiments that will help them to construct their own knowledge. The students who are trained via inquiry-based learning can realize their misconceptions and mistakes and correct them. So they can transfer them into knowledge and success. In this study, a practical example was developed within the scope of inquiry-based learning in science and technology course for the 5th grade students in primary education. For this purpose, at first the inquiry-based learning approach was introduced, then the basic characteristics and advantages of inquiry-based learning approach were explained. In the process of inquiry-based learning, the roles of teacher and students were emphasized. Later, inquiry-based learning settings were described. At the and of the study, a practical example was developed within the scope of inquiry-based learning in science and technology course for the 5th grade students in primary education in Turkey.
