As the global economy drives a rise in the number of students undertaking postgraduate studies many factors such as student motivation need to be considered. Academic learning support is an integral part of a postgraduate degree program and students need to be able to access appropriate support in order to have a satisfying learning experience. This paper discusses the use of online consultations for Master of Business Technology students studying at the Australian School of Business at the University of New South Wales. This consultation service is one strategy that is currently being used to address academic skills support. Postgraduate students need explicit academic discourse feedback to complement content driven programs and these support mechanisms can be used to create learning communities, which are often absent from online postgraduate programs.
