Leadership Qualities of Head Teachers at Secondary Level as Viewed by the Teachers in Private Sector in Pakistan

The main purpose of this study was to find out the desirable leadership qualities of the Secondary school head teachers as viewed by the teachers. The teachers of The Educators (Secondary Schools) of Lahore district constituted the population for this study. One hundred teachers from 10 randomly selected schools were selected as sample by stratified random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was developed for the purpose of data collection. Through this questionnaire, opinion of the teachers about the leadership qualities of Secondary school head teachers was collected. The main findings of the study revealed that majority of the head teachers take interest in matters concerning with the community education, social affairs of the society and welfare of the area and they also discuss educational problems with the community members. Findings of the study also revealed that they provide educational guidance to the community and teachers, they get the opinion of the teachers in school administrative matters and give importance to others’ opinion while planning. They maintain co-ordination among the teachers, students, educational organization and the members of the society for educational progress.

Mr. Azhar Mumtaz Saadi, is B.Sc with major in Chemistry and Biology along with B.Ed. He earned his M.A in Islamic Studies from Islamia University, Bahawalpur. He also earned his Master in Education from the University of Punjab, Lahore. He has been serving as a Secondary School Science Teacher in the public sector since 1985. In 2004 he won Indigenous 5000 PhD fellowship from Higher Education Commission Pakistan. He completed his PhD (Education) under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Muhammad Saeed at the Division of Education, University of Education, Lahore in May 2008. His research papers have been published in different national and international journals. he also have presented different articles in international conferences. Presently he is working as principal in a higher secondary school in Islamabad under Federal Directorate of Education, Pakistan.

Naseer Ahmad Salfi

Mr. Naseer Ahmad Salfi has been persuing his Ph.D in Education from the University of Education Lahore- Pakistan. He has done his Msater of Education from University of the Punjab with distinction scoring 84% Marks. Presently, he is working as a headmaster in a secondary school. He has published six research papers in national and international reputed journals. His area of interest is Educational leadership and management.
