Back to the 3 R’s: Reading, Writing, Rhetoric
Argues that contemporary understandings and practices of adult literacy and adult basic education need to re-establish a substantial connection with ancient rhetoric as both a political tradition, a culture of language use, and an ensemble of pedagogic strategies and exercises.

Dr Rob McCormack spent many years working to formulate some coherent theory and practices for Adult Basic Education as a substantive education for 'second chance adults'. Since the mid-90s he has worked at Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education, Northern Territory, Australia with a strong focus on developing academic and civic literacy for Indigenous adult students. His Learning to Learn the Next Step: Helping students read and write academic discourse (Language Australia) was published in 2002.
