Mr Graeme Sterne

Graeme is a senior lecturer in Communication Studies at Manukau Institute of Technology, Auckland New Zealand. He has a special interest in working with Pacific Island and Maori students which comes from his background in youth work and leadership development. He is currently the key organiser of Pacific Business Trust research initiatives. In 2004, Graeme received a Distinguished Teacher Award for the excellence of his work in several areas – organising industry mentors for Communication Studies students, innovative bicultural teaching, high level of student motivation in classes, practical course assessments, research projects, and conference presentations. Graeme and his wife, Diane, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year. Their two grown children live with them in Auckland. He is a deeply religious man who loves his family and is very involved in the Chinese Presbyterian Church. He has run three marathons, coached field hockey to state representative level and served for many years in the Navigator organisation where he was a leadership developer. Graeme’s academic background includes a Master of Arts, Post graduate Diplomas in Guidance and Counselling, and in Business and Administration (Communication Management); and a Certificate in Tertiary Teaching. He comes from a background in teaching, youth work, human resources and public relations. Graeme’s personal mission statement is “Creating opportunities for people to grow”. He fulfils this through his teaching, coaching, mentoring and personal encouragement of students from all nationalities and backgrounds.
